
Modi arrives in Ahmedabad, visits Air India plane crash site
What's the story
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday to meet officials and review the situation in the wake of the tragic Air India flight AI171 crash.
The Boeing 787-8 aircraft was en route to London and crashed shortly after take-off, reportedly killing all but one of the 242 people on board.
The sole survivor is a British national of Indian origin. He is currently being treated in a hospital.

Modi expected to meet families of victims
Modi is expected to meet the families of those who died in the crash.
Apart from the people on board the plane, five medical students were also killed as the aircraft crash-landed into a residential complex of BJ Medical hospital.
Reportedly, 50 injured persons are being treated at an Ahmedabad civil hospital, and their condition is stable.
Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among those killed in the incident.
Modi may also meet Rupani's next of kin at Gandhinagar.

Identification process
Amit Shah on DNA identification process
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who visited the crash site on Thursday night, said the exact number of deaths would be revealed after the DNA identification process.
He announced that over 1,000 DNA samples would be collected for this purpose from both bodies and their nearest kin.
He also explained that the airplane was carrying 1.25 lakh litres of fuel and burst into a fireball after it crashed on Thursday afternoon.
"There was no chance to save anything," he added.
Support measures
Tata Group announces ₹1 crore compensation for each victim
The passengers on board the 12-year-old Boeing 787-8 included 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian national.
The Tata Group has announced ₹1 crore compensation for the families of each victim. The group will also bear the medical expenses of those injured and help rebuild BJ Medical's hostel destroyed in the crash.
