MP: Visually impaired man urinated on, bystanders film without intervening

A visually impaired youth was allegedly urinated on by his relatives near a petrol pump in Mandideep town, Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place on Friday and was captured in a 37-second video that went viral online. The accused, Rajkumar Lavanshi and Govind Lavanshi, were arrested by the police after the video surfaced.

The accused and the victim had gone to sell paddy together when an argument broke out after consuming liquor. The dispute turned into a fight, during which the disabled youth fell on the ground. One of the accused then allegedly urinated on his face even as the other tried to stop him, while bystanders filmed the incident instead of intervening.

Political backlash follows incident
Congress state president Jitu Patwari criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party government for failing to maintain law and order. Patwari said, "There is no law and order, no ministry called Home, no minister called Home Minister in Madhya Pradesh." Raisen Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Kumar confirmed the arrest under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for assault, outraging modesty, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
