Mumbai cops bust deepfake investment scam, arrest 4
Mumbai Cyber Police have arrested four employees, including the finance head, from Bengaluru's Valueleaf India Services for running a deepfake investment scam.
They allegedly used AI-generated videos of a SEBI-registered analyst to push fake stock tips on social media, tricking people into thinking the advice was legit.
The fraud came to light after the real analyst reported it in late September 2025.
Victims lured through slick ads on Meta platforms
Victims were lured through slick ads on Meta platforms and steered into WhatsApp groups and fake trading apps, where they saw phony profits but couldn't withdraw their money.
The accused reportedly made around ₹3 crore before being caught.
Despite Meta flagging some accounts, the ads kept coming, as Valueleaf knowingly shared its ad access with Chinese syndicates.
The four are now in custody, facing charges like cheating and forgery under new Indian laws—while police dig deeper into this worrying trend of AI-powered financial scams.
