Mumbai couple arrested for using AI to create fake railway passes

India

A Mumbai couple, Omkar and Gudiya Sharma, landed in trouble after allegedly using AI and coding skills to make fake railway season passes.
They were caught on a Kalyan-Dadar AC local train when a ticket inspector noticed something off with their digital pass.
Both now face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), India's new criminal code, for cheating and forgery.

How they got caught—and what's next

Gudiya tried showing her pass through a browser link, but the QR code didn't work.
Railway officials quickly found out the pass was expired and actually belonged to Omkar.
He later admitted he'd created the fake using AI tools and shared it with his wife.
Authorities suspect this might be part of a bigger racket making AI-generated passes, so police are digging deeper.
If convicted, they could face up to seven years in jail or hefty fines.
