Mumbai: Diva level crossing delays trains for 45 minutes

India

On Thursday, October 16, 2025, a huge traffic jam at Mumbai's Diva level crossing brought trains on the Kurla-Kalyan line to a crawl—some were delayed up to 45 minutes.
The mess lasted nearly half an hour as railway staff had to keep the gate open for vehicles, completely halting train movement.

Why is there a delay?

Diva crossing is notorious for delays—it opens about 39 times daily and nearly nine lakh vehicles use it every day.
This means up to 90 trains get blocked on the CSMT-Kalyan route.
During rush hours, just opening the gate can take eight to 12 minutes because of heavy road traffic.

ROB stuck since 2019

A road over bridge (ROB) meant to solve these jams has been stuck since 2019 due to land issues for approach roads.
Until that's sorted and the bridge is finished, daily train delays—and commuter headaches—aren't going anywhere.
