Mumbai: Guest speaker at St Xavier's faces FIR for sexual harassment
A 61-year-old guest speaker from Vidarbha has been booked by Mumbai Police after several female students at St. Xavier's College accused him of sexual harassment during the college festival on November 26-27.
Complaints say he took unauthorized photos and made inappropriate physical contact, prompting at least 10 students to file reports with the college's Internal Complaints Committee.
What's happening now?
Police registered an FIR under laws related to outraging and insulting women's modesty, and the guest speaker was immediately asked to leave campus.
He is currently in a Vidarbha hospital for mental health treatment, which police are checking into.
The college handed over CCTV footage and is investigating further, with Principal Dr. Karuna Gokarn stating the matter was being taken very seriously and that the college was taking action to support students.
