Mumbai, Pune among places on red alert in Maharashtra

India

Maharashtra's been drenched by intense rainfall, with red alerts out for Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, and Pune.
The India Meteorological Department says more downpours and thunderstorms are on the way for these cities and nearby districts.
Warnings are also up for places like Nashik and Raigad, while Nandurbar and Jalgaon are on orange alert.

10 deaths, over 11,800 displaced

In just 24 hours, at least 10 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents. Over 11,800 residents have had to leave their homes due to flooding risks—7,000 of them from Paithan in Marathwada after water levels surged at Jayakwadi dam.
Mumbai saw intermittent downpours but managed to avoid major traffic chaos so far.
Officials are urging everyone in affected areas to stay safe and follow advisories as the wet weather is expected to stick around until October 3.
