Mumbai-Pune Expressway upgrades to reduce travel time

India

Big changes are coming to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, which is always packed with cars—especially on weekends. To tackle the traffic and make drives smoother, MSRDC is rolling out major upgrades that'll impact thousands of daily commuters.

Missing link to be filled

A new 13-km stretch with two eight-lane tunnels and a cable-stayed bridge will finally fill in the "missing link," cutting travel time by about 30 minutes around Lonavla-Khandala. Plus, the whole expressway will expand from six lanes to 10. The project costs around ₹14,260 crore and will be funded through tolls—so no extra charges for now, but toll collection might stick around longer than planned.

Will you benefit from these upgrades?

If you've ever been stuck in weekend traffic between Mumbai and Pune (who hasn't?), these upgrades could mean faster trips and less frustration once completed.
