Mumbai, Pune on red alert as intense rain continues

India

IMD has put Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Mumbai City, and Mumbai Suburban on red alert after intense rain hit the region this weekend.
Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected to continue, while several other districts are on orange or yellow alerts.

Rain linked to Bay of Bengal depression

The rain is linked to a Bay of Bengal depression and is likely until October 3.
It's already caused serious disruptions—at least 10 people have died (including three in a Nashik house collapse), and over 11,800 residents have been evacuated.
With roads flooded and rescue teams working round the clock, officials are urging everyone to stay safe and keep an eye on updates.

CM orders immediate relief efforts

Chief Minister Fadnavis has ordered immediate relief efforts—evacuations in risky areas are underway, dam discharges are being closely watched to prevent floods, and extra disaster response teams are ready if things get worse.
