Mumbai's 2nd airport to launch in 2025

India

Mumbai's getting a big upgrade—Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) will be ceremonially inaugurated on October 8, 2024, and is expected to begin operations by December 2024.
This new airport means Mumbai won't be stuck with just one super-busy airport anymore. By the 2030s, NMIA is expected to take over as the main travel hub for the whole region.

NMIA will eventually have 4 terminals

At launch, NMIA will have one runway and Terminal 1, handling up to 20 million passengers a year.
A second terminal arrives in 2029, bumping capacity by another 30 million.
By 2030, both NMIA and the current Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport could each handle up to 60 million travelers annually.
And there's more: two extra terminals are planned by 2036, pushing NMIA's total capacity to a massive 90 million passengers per year—putting Mumbai alongside global cities like Tokyo and London with multiple mega airports.
