Mumbai's lakes are almost full; city uses 3,850ML water/day

India

Mumbai's seven main water supply lakes are almost at capacity—97.57% full—thanks to recent downpours, according to the BMC.
Even with all this rain (Middle Vaitarna alone got 275mm), the city still uses a massive 3,850 million liters of water each day, which prevents the water stock from reaching 100% because it is a live storage stock.

BMC to recycle lake overflow

With some lakes filling up faster than others and overflow heading straight to rivers and the sea, the BMC is stepping in.
By 2027, they want to capture 200 million liters per day of overflow from Vihar Lake and send it to the Bhandup pumping station so it can actually be used by Mumbaikars instead of being wasted.
