Narendra Modi meets Vladimir Putin in New Delhi before BRICS
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in New Delhi on Friday, marking Putin's first in-person participation at a BRICS summit outside Russia since the war in Ukraine began in February 2022.
Their conversation zeroed in on strengthening ties between India and Russia, especially in trade, defense, energy, and technology.

Modi gifted Putin a copy of the Thirukkural, a classic Tamil poem collection.
The leaders also talked about upgrading BrahMos missiles, completing the remaining deliveries of S-400 air defense systems, and possible Su-57 fighter jet deals.
Plans for new civil nuclear reactors came up too. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov called cooperation between the two countries in the sector robust.

With global challenges like the Ukraine war looming large, this year's BRICS summit (starting Saturday) will tackle issues such as food security, energy stability, and disaster management.
