National Policy for Women- Maneka Gandhi wants your suggestions
The Ministry of Women & Child Development has prepared the draft of National Policy for Women, but before it is released, you are welcome to pitch in. The draft has been under development for 2 years; and before the release, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi is inviting out-of-the-box ideas and suggestions that can be incorporated in the policy. Here's how you can play your part.
What is this policy aimed at?
The policy aims to "address the needs of women in the New India" and will also "guide the functioning of the Government" in the coming years. So, it's absolutely paramount that we, as citizens of India, take part in this initiative and help strengthen a policy crucial for our nation's development. Here are some salient takeaways from the policy for you to mull on.
The vision behind the policy
The vision behind this policy is to create "a society in which, women attain their full potential and are able to participate as equal partners in all spheres of life and influence the process of social change." The is a generic policy framework that would guide the sectors to make detailed policy documents, which would benefit the women in that particular sector.
Some of the key objectives of the policy
Empowering women belonging to the vulnerable and marginalized groups of the society. Developing a gender-sensitive judicial system. Ensuring that women get to enjoy their fundamental rights without any bias. To incentivize workforce participation of women in the country. Eliminating all kinds of violence against women by strengthening policies, legislations and programs. Transforming mindsets by encouraging community engagement of men and boys.
Key needs of the hour
The need of the hour is to prepare family-friendly policies to accommodate childcare, dependent care; paid leave for women and men both in organized and unorganized sectors. With the advent of technology, incidences of misuse of information in cyberspace have been noticed, hence, measures should be taken to protect citizens keeping in mind that in most cases, the victims of such breach are women.
