NCERT restoring original 'Dancing Girl' in Class 9 arts textbook
India
NCERT is bringing back the original image of the famous Dancing Girl from Mohenjo-daro in its class nine arts textbook, after people spoke out against a changed version that added extra shading.
Director Dinesh Saklani said NCERT will replace the modified image of the "Dancing Girl" in the Class 9 Arts textbook with the original version.
Michel Danino says alteration misrepresents artifact
Michel Danino called the altered image a distortion, saying it pushed old-fashioned ideas about nudity and clashed with efforts to decolonize education.
He also said altering such images misrepresents the original artifact.
The Dancing Girl, made around 2600 B.C., stands out for her bold pose and shows off just how skilled Indus Valley artists were.
