Need law to suspend judges facing serious allegations: DMK MP
India
DMK Rajya Sabha MP Wilson is pushing for a new law that would provide for suspension of judges facing serious allegations, as long as there is solid evidence.
He feels the current impeachment process takes way too long and is too complicated, making it hard for people to trust the system.
His call comes while Justice Yashwant Varma is facing impeachment in Lok Sabha.
Representation in judiciary
Wilson pointed out that the most recent high court judges come from just a few communities (almost 80% from forward groups) and there is barely any representation from women or minorities at the top level.
He says India's courts should look more like its people, and that there is a need for broader social representation so the judiciary reflects the diversity of society.
