NIA cracks down on gangster Anmol Bishnoi over 2015 murder case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is stepping up its efforts against gangster Anmol Bishnoi, seeking his remand while citing a major 2015 murder in Punjab as a pivotal moment in gang activity.
That case—where Sukha Kahlwan was killed in broad daylight while under police escort—sparked a surge of gang activity across Punjab and even into neighboring states.

Why this matters

Bishnoi is linked to around 40 cases, including organizing logistics for high-profile crimes like the 2022 murder of rapper Sidhu Moose Wala.
After fleeing India on a fake visa and getting deported from the US, he's now back under investigation.
This week, a Patiala court allowed the NIA to question him further, to further investigate his role in multiple gang-related crimes.
