NIA probes Punjab National Bank worker over ₹17.29cr counterfeit notes
A contract worker at Punjab National Bank, making just ₹11,000 a month, is now at the center of a huge fake currency scandal.
The NIA is examining the worker's assets, financial transactions and proximity to the manager after he may be the effective owner of five houses, an SUV, a sedan and two motorcycles, way beyond what his salary would suggest.
This all started when ₹17.29 crore in counterfeit notes were found in the bank's Saharanpur currency chest.
Investigators probe finances, Amit Kumar ties
Officials are now checking his financial records and ties to Amit Kumar, the suspended manager who ran the currency chest.
They're trying to figure out how he managed such a lavish lifestyle on a modest income and whether fake notes were substituted for genuine currency or how the counterfeit cash reached the currency chest.
After the raid on his home, investigators are also looking for links to bigger networks, possibly a possible foreign connection.
