Odisha man comes home after 45 days held captive in Sudan
India
Adarsh Behera, a 36-year-old mechanic from Odisha, is finally back home after spending 45 days as a hostage in Sudan.
He was abducted by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) while working at a plastic factory in North Darfur.
Thanks to coordinated efforts by the Indian government and diplomats, he made it safely back to his family in 2024.
A tough ordeal and hope for a fresh start
Behera shared that he was beaten, forced to march long distances, and barely given basic necessities—calling his return "a rebirth."
Now that he's home, his wife Sasmita has asked the state government to help him find work locally so he doesn't have to risk going abroad again.
