Centre sacks 3 senior IAS officers over graft and inefficiency
The Centre came cracking down on two senior IAS officers BL Agrawal and Ajay Pal Singh, hailing from Chhattisgarh and 1 from Madhya Pradesh cadre. While Ajay Pal Singh was castigated for non-performance, MK Singh was penalized for inefficiency and graft. The sacking was confirmed by MP chief secretary BP Singh. The two officers, however, said the allegations were untrue.
Centre gives sanction to public to seek IAS officers' prosecution
In a major move in 2016, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the Centre had granted the permission to private people seeking the sanction for prosecution of State and central IAS officers. Such requests could previously be initiated only by the investigative agencies. The cases would now go to a Center-designated "competent authority" which would assesses the evidence and then grant/refuse the sanction.
How the current system works?
The current state of Indian bureaucracy is such that in every state, the CM's hand-picked 5-6 officers run the administration while the other 300 odd make for the deadwood officers- inefficient, underperforming, some on a politician's payroll or simply ignored and decaying.

Centre gives retirement to 129 nonperforming government officers
The government has sacked 30 Group A officers and 99 Group B officers in the past few months over non-performance. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's office, said the deadwood officers were disbanded after reviewing their performances. He said this would also serve as a warning to others that the Modi government is not tolerant towards corruption and inefficiency.
Prosecution of 48 IAS, IPS, IRS officers sanctioned for corruption
A few days back, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh revealed that the Centre had approved the sanction for prosecution of 48 IAS, IPS, and IRS officers. The officers have been accused of corruption, he revealed. 23 of these hailed from IAS, 3 were IPS officers and 22 were IRS officers, the minister mentioned in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
