IIT placements: Many offers over Rs. 1cr from top companies
    Credits

This year's placement session at the IITs has begun in full zeal, with top companies offering high international and domestic packages to the best talents. At IIT-Bombay, the highest domestic package of Rs. 45LPA was offered by financial services firm Blackstone. Among international offers, Microsoft led with a package of $214,000 (Rs. 1.38cr). The number of placements also increased across campuses. Here's more.

Microsoft, Rubrik, Uber and even ISRO line up at IIT-Bombay

250 companies have registered with IIT-Bombay for the first phase of placements. On Day-1, over 30 companies including Blackstone, WorldQuant, ISRO and BPCL made 150 offers. Most increased their 2016 packages. Microsoft, Rubrik, Uber and NEC Japan offered jobs abroad. QualComm made the most offers (12) followed by Goldman Sachs (11), IBM and Microsoft (10 each). After last year's fiasco, startups largely remained absent.

At IIT-Madras, 114 offers came during the pre-placement sessions

At IIT-Madras, some of the 114 pre-placement offers had come from Microsoft, QualComm and Goldman Sachs. On Day-1, this campus saw 195 placements compared to last year's 160. International offers increased from three (2016) to 11, including some of over Rs. 1cr. The most offers (10) were made by Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Samsung Research Institute and EXL Services. Analytics/finance/consulting made 41% of the offers.

Microsoft led placements at IIT-Delhi too

The highest offer at IIT-Delhi again came from Microsoft (Rs. 1.4cr). In fact, "quite a few" students got offers worth over Rs. 1cr in two days. Over 30 companies including NVIDIA, Oracle and American Express have already reached the campus. "Though data has not been collated yet, it looks like the placements this time will be better than the last year," an official said.

IITs take steps to reduce stress on students

To reduce stress on students, several campuses including Madras and Bombay have ended their graveyard slots, which generally go on during the night (12am-6am). The placement session will continue till May 2018.
