PM Modi cheers Project Cheetah on International Cheetah Day

India

On December 4, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked International Cheetah Day by sharing cheetah photos online and calling them "one of our planet's most remarkable creatures."
He spotlighted Project Cheetah—a major effort started in 2022 to bring cheetahs back to India after they vanished from India around 1952.

How's Project Cheetah doing?

The project began with eight cheetahs from Namibia, then added 12 more from South Africa.
A local female, Mukhi, just made history by giving birth to five cubs—the first Indian-born cheetah to do so—showing these big cats are settling in.

More milestones: Veera and her cubs go wild

On the same day, Madhya Pradesh's Chief Minister released three cheetahs into Kuno National Park's wild habitat.
Their movements are being tracked with high-tech radio collars.
Plus, global teamwork is helping India's cheetahs make a real comeback.
