PM Modi joins 1 lakh devotees for mass Bhagavad Gita recitation in Udupi

India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Udupi's famous Sri Krishna Temple, joining over 1 lakh people for a massive group chanting of the Bhagavad Gita.
He paid tribute to saint Kanakadasa at Kanaka Mantap and took part in the "Laksha Geeta Pathana," where thousands recited verses together—a pretty unique spiritual moment.

Spotlight on Udupi's heritage and Modi's connection

Modi was welcomed with traditional honors, including a silver Tulasi Japa mala, and spoke about Udupi's special place in both cultural history and Indian politics—especially remembering the 1968 election of VS Acharya.
This was his second visit to the temple (the first was back in 2008), showing his ongoing bond with Udupi's spiritual roots.
The event also brought together monks, scholars, and local devotees, making it a memorable gathering for the community.
