Rupani's political journey
A senior BJP leader, Rupani served as Rajya Sabha MP (2006-2012), then became a Cabinet Minister after winning the Rajkot (West) bypoll in 2014. He led the BJP as state president and took over as Chief Minister in 2016, guiding the party through key elections and challenges like the Patidar agitation.
His personal life
Beyond politics, Rupani was active in social work and ran a family business. He is survived by his wife Anjali—also a longtime BJP worker—and their two surviving children. His passing leaves a noticeable gap in Gujarat's political scene.
