President Droupadi Murmu has revoked the President's Rule in Manipur, paving the way for a new government. The proclamation was issued under clause (2) of article 356 of the Constitution. The BJP leadership has endorsed former Manipur Cabinet Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to lead the new government. On Tuesday, more than 45 MLAs from the Manipur Legislative Assembly agreed on Singh, who belongs to the Meitei community, as the new chief minister. As part of the power-sharing agreement, Nemcha Kipgen of the Kuki community was named deputy chief minister, while Govindas Konthoujam will take over as home minister.

Singh on Wednesday staked a claim to form a government in Manipur. He met Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Governor of Manipur, at Lok Bhavan in Imphal, and submitted a claim to form a BJP-led NDA government. Two Kuki-Zo MLAs LM Khaute and Ngursanglur Sanate, were also present. The oath ceremony is expected at 6:00pm.
