A major theft hit a Jain temple in Mumbai's Lalbaug on March 30, with gold and diamond jewelry worth ₹1.75 crore stolen straight from the idol of Lord Simandhar Swami.
The break-in was discovered by a priest early in the morning, and police have already registered a case under new criminal law sections.
Police identify suspect in Lalbaug theft
The thief got away with 1.4kg of gold ornaments plus a diamond tilak valued at ₹25 lakh.
After checking CCTV footage, police have identified a suspect and are actively working to catch them.
Temple trust member Jayesh Jain said he's confident the police will crack the case soon.
Authorities are stepping up efforts to recover the stolen items and keep temples safe.
