Pune leopard that killed 3 people shot dead
A leopard that killed three people—including a young girl, a teenager, and an elderly woman—in Pune's Shirur taluka was shot dead on Tuesday night.
The attacks left the local community shaken, sparking protests and roadblocks.
Forest officials acted quickly, with Conservator Ashish Thakre obtaining immediate permission to capture or shoot the animal.
Leopard was tracked for over a week
Special teams from ResQ Charitable Trust used camera traps and thermal drones to track the leopard.
When attempts to tranquilize it failed and things got dangerous, a sharpshooter had to step in.
Afterward, the leopard's body was shown to villagers before being sent for a postmortem at Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre.
The whole effort involved close coordination between forest officials and locals.
