Punjab & Haryana High Court's eco-friendly bail condition
The Punjab and Haryana High Court just gave bail to several people—but with a catch. Each person has to plant 10 native saplings in a public spot within 15 days and show photo proof at their local police station. It's the court's way of mixing justice with some much-needed care for the environment.
Other conditions for bail
Besides planting trees, those out on bail must follow standard rules: post personal bonds, help with investigations, and not influence witnesses. If they don't stick to these conditions, their bail can be canceled.
Courts are linking environmental action with legal outcomes
This isn't the first time courts have linked legal outcomes to environmental action—similar orders popped up in a drug case last December. As Advocate Gaurav Sharma notes, it shows how courts are starting to connect responsibility for the planet with responsibility under the law.
