Punjab Police nab murder suspect after Mohali encounter

India

Punjab Police caught Harpinder Singh, also known as Middu, in Mohali after a shootout on Wednesday.
This arrest is a big step in the case of kabaddi player Kanwar Digvijay Singh (aka Rana Balachauria), who was murdered on December 15.
Both Middu and two police officers were injured during the chase and are now recovering.
Police say Middu has been linked to several serious crimes.

What happened: Gang rivalry behind kabaddi player's murder

Balachauria was shot during a tournament near Sohana police station—his attackers pretended they wanted a selfie before opening fire, which sent the crowd into panic.
The shooters, from the Lucky Patial gang (associated with the Davinder Bambiha gang), escaped right after.
Balachauria's associate Jagpreet Singh was also hurt but is stable now.
According to SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans, the motive was gang rivalry over kabaddi dominance—not connected to any other high-profile cases.
