Rainfall resurgence expected in Mumbai
Mumbai's monsoon is making a comeback this weekend, with the IMD putting out an orange alert for Saturday—so expect heavy to very heavy rain in Mumbai and Thane. Raigad and Ratnagiri are even on red alert, with extremely heavy showers likely until Sunday morning. All this follows a surprisingly dry spell after May's early monsoon start.
Rainy conditions likely to persist till June 17
The downpour is thanks to some active weather systems—a cyclonic circulation over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and a trough stretching to coastal Karnataka—that are bringing the monsoon currents back to life. Mumbai will be on yellow alert Friday, moving up to orange on Saturday, which means thunderstorms and gusty winds could also be in the mix. The IMD says these rainy conditions may stick around till June 17 across Maharashtra.
