Rajasthan court acquits 40 accused in 2015 land dispute killings
A Rajasthan court has acquitted all 40 people accused in a 2015 case where six people, including five Dalits, were killed during a violent land dispute.
The judge pointed out big gaps in the investigation, such as missing DNA tests and no test identification parade, making it impossible to link weapons or evidence clearly to the accused.
Victims' families to challenge verdict
Victims' families say key evidence and names were ignored and are planning to challenge the verdict.
The clash involved nearly 200 people attacking a camp of Dalit Meghwal community members over disputed land, leaving several dead and others injured.
The court summed it up: "This Court has only recorded that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the absence of that right, which is a negative finding, and not a positive one."
