Rath Yatra: Sibling deities take seat in chariots
Puri's iconic Rath Yatra just kicked off, with Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra making their grand exit from the 12th-century temple.
The deities were carefully carried out in a lively two-hour procession before boarding their massive, colorfully decorated chariots.
They're now on their once-a-year 2.6km trip to Gundicha Temple—a rare moment when everyone gets to see them up close.
Streets alive with music, dance
This isn't just a religious event—it's a huge celebration. The streets are packed with thousands of people enjoying Odissi dance and folk music as the chariots roll by.
Even leaders like the Shankaracharya made an appearance despite health issues, while Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb performed the traditional 'Chhera Pahanra' ritual.
Deities will return home after staying at Gundicha Temple
With lakhs of visitors expected, security is tight: think 10,000 personnel, AI-powered CCTVs, drones, anti-drone tech—the works.
After their stay at Gundicha Temple, the deities will return home to wrap up this epic festival.
