Red Fort blast: Umar's parents' DNA samples sent for testing
Investigators looking into the Red Fort blast have sent DNA samples from Dr. Umar Nabi Bhat's parents to AIIMS Forensic Lab.
Bhat is believed to have been driving the car that exploded near the fort on Monday evening, which killed nine people.
Testing these samples could reveal if he was among those who died or if he's still out there.
Why DNA profiling is important in this case
Because some victims can't be identified visually, investigators use DNA profiling—basically matching family members' DNA with unidentified bodies at Lok Nayak Hospital.
They're using advanced techniques like kinship and maternal lineage analysis, which focus on genetic markers from things like bones.
While not common in India yet, this approach is key to figuring out exactly who was involved in the blast.
