Rekha Gupta orders police verification for all Delhi school staff
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is making school safety a priority: she's ordered police verification for all school bus and van drivers, attendants, sanitation workers, and staff in schools.
This comes after nearly half of Delhi schools inspected in July were found lacking basic safety measures, like child welfare committees and parent representatives.
The inspections used a Student Safety Checklist to help spot gaps and keep kids safe.
Gupta starts Delhi child begging campaign
Gupta isn't stopping at schools: she's also kicking off a campaign to end child begging in Delhi.
The plan is to team up with NGOs and local groups so rescued kids can access education and skills training.
For children leaving care homes, Gupta wants them connected to jobs or further studies, even suggesting autos for interested girls and e-rickshaws for boys through the Transport Department to help them get started.
