Retired Lt. Gen. Vijay Oberoi dies aged 84 in Chandigarh

Lt. Gen. Vijay Oberoi, retired, former Vice Chief of Army Staff, died at 84 in Chandigarh.
He joined the Maratha Light Infantry in 1961 and kept serving for more than 40 years, even after losing his right leg in 1965 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Vijay Oberoi founded War Wounded Foundation
Oberoi led from the front as director general of military operations and army commander, but he didn't stop there.
After retiring, he started the War Wounded Foundation and Centre for Land Warfare Studies to champion war-disabled soldiers.
At 72, he even ran the Mumbai Marathon with a prosthetic leg, showing just how unstoppable he was about soldier welfare and making a difference.
