Rohini man staged kidnapping to hide unemployment and debt
India
A 35-year-old from Rohini, Delhi, pretended to be kidnapped so his family wouldn't find out he'd been unemployed for nearly a year and was deep in debt.
He left home as usual, then called his father at about 8.05pm saying he would return shortly.
Soon after, his younger brother received a call in which only the words "Deepu, Deepu, ruko" were heard before the line went silent.
Man admits staging at Kaushambi station
Worried by the abandoned car and switched-off phone, the family filed a kidnapping complaint at Shahbad Dairy police station.
Police tracked him down at Kaushambi metro station bus stand, where he admitted he staged everything because he couldn't face telling them about his unemployment and loans.
The investigation is still ongoing.
