Sachin Tendulkar explains why ending open-defecation is important for children

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar calls for ending open defecation in an open letter published in Hindustan Times. Tendulkar said poor sanitation was the reason one of every five kids in India suffered from diarrhoea, and he was glad the government took steps for cleanliness through 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan'. As he applauded the initiative in letter, he said there is still a long way to go.

Tendulkar credits childhood for success, wishes same for kids

Drawing references from his own life, Sachin Tendulkar said he achieved humongous success because he had a blessed childhood. But this is not the case when many kids, Tendulkar added. He wrote, "...because of repeated bouts of diarrhoea, their brains and bodies don't develop as they should. Those children are this country's future." Tendulkar added only ending open defecation will help Indian kids.

'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan' an ambitious project by PM: Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar wrote, "When Prime Minister Modi launched the Mission in 2014, its goal was an incredibly ambitious one. Ending the practice of open defecation by October 2019 is a target that required not only political will, but a nationwide 'jan andolan' movement."
