Delhi: Health Minister's condition deteriorates, put on oxygen support

What's the story

The medical condition of Delhi's Health Minister Satyendar Jain has deteriorated and he has been put on oxygen support, days after testing positive for coronavirus. He contracted pneumonia, the infection reportedly reached his lungs, and he was put on oxygen support yesterday. He would be administered plasma therapy, a method where blood plasma of recovered patients is given to sick ones for recovery.

From Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Jain to be shifted to Max

Jain was admitted to state-run Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital this week after he complained of high fever and breathlessness. He is now being moved to Max Smart, Saket. A team led by medicine specialist Dr. S Budhiraja will look after him. Meanwhile, with 49,979 cases and 1,969 deaths, Delhi has become the third worst-hit state after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

Praying for his speedy recovery: Amit Shah

After the news surfaced, Union Home Minister Amit Shah put out a tweet hoping for Jain's well-being. "Praying for the speedy recovery of Shri Satyendra Jain, Health Minister of Delhi who is battling with COVID-19 infection," he wrote. A few days back, Jain had attended a key meeting convened by Shah, also attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on the coronavirus crisis.

Atishi tested positive for coronavirus too

Worryingly, several other AAP leaders have tested positive for coronavirus. Atishi, the MLA from Kalkaji constituency, was the third legislator to get infected. Before her, Rajkumar Anand, the AAP MLA from Patel Nagar, tested positive. In May, Vishesh Ravi, the representative of Karol Bagh constituency, and his brother contracted the infection. Akshay Marathe and adviser Abhinandita Dayal Mathur also tested positive.
