SC to hear plea on stubble burning as Delhi's air worsens
Delhi's air is in the "severe" zone again, and the Supreme Court is stepping in.
On Monday, the court will look into a petition about stubble burning—the farm fires in Punjab and Haryana that are making things worse.
The judges have asked both states to explain what they're actually doing to tackle the problem, especially since emergency pollution measures (GRAP Stage III) are already in place.
Why should you care?
Toxic air isn't just uncomfortable—it can cause lasting health issues, as Justice P.S. Narasimha pointed out.
Despite efforts from agencies like CAQM and CPCB, over 4,300 farm fire incidents were reported recently, and many pollution monitors weren't even working during Diwali.
With winter pollution peaking every year, how well authorities respond now could shape how breathable Delhi's air is for all of us.
