SC's stray dog removal order sparks debate, Gauri Maulekhi reacts

India

The Supreme Court has ordered that stray dogs be removed from schools, colleges, and other public areas, sparking a heated debate.
The directive, issued on November 3, calls for fences to be built within two weeks to keep strays out.
Animal rights activist Gauri Maulekhi called the move "impractical" and said it was made without enough discussion.

BJP leader supports order, calls for organized relocation

Maulekhi pointed out that many places like IITs and AIIMS already manage strays through neutering and vaccination, questioning how the new order would work better.
She also mentioned her team's plan for humane management was ignored.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Maneka Gandhi worried about where thousands of dogs would go without proper shelters.
On the flip side, BJP leader Vijay Goel supported the order as a step toward organized relocation.
