Sena MLA's assault on canteen staff sparks controversy

India

Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad landed in controversy after slapping a canteen staffer at the Mumbai MLA hostel, upset over stale food.
He went further, blaming the Shetty community for "degrading Maharashtra's culture" and claimed Marathis wouldn't have made such a mistake.
Gaikwad also accused Shettys of running dance bars.

Gaikwad refused to back down

Even after Chief Minister Fadnavis and Deputy CM Shinde called his behavior unacceptable, Gaikwad defended himself, saying he'd complained about the food quality for years but nothing changed.
The leaders suggested filing a formal complaint instead of resorting to violence.

Gaikwad's controversial past

Gaikwad has made headlines before—offering ₹11 lakh to anyone who could cut off Rahul Gandhi's tongue, claiming to have hunted a tiger (which led to legal trouble), and once comparing voters to prostitutes.
Despite this track record, he remains with the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.
