Sonam Wangchuk's wife writes to President Murmu, seeks his release
Gitanjali Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, has written to President Droupadi Murmu asking for his immediate release.
She highlighted their shared tribal roots and described Wangchuk as a peaceful advocate for tribal rights and climate action.
Wangchuk was arrested last week under the National Security Act after protests in Leh turned violent, leaving four dead and many injured.
He's currently in Jodhpur Central Jail.
Angmo calls for immediate release of all detainees
Angmo says the charges against her husband are baseless and part of a "witch hunt" to silence calls for Ladakh's statehood and special protections.
The protests led to curfews, internet shutdowns, and over 50 detentions.
Key local groups have now paused talks with the government until all detainees are freed and an inquiry is launched—showing just how tense things are between Ladakh's tribal communities and authorities right now.
