Srinagar sees coldest night of the season so far

India

Kashmir shivered through its chilliest night so far, with Srinagar dropping to -2.1°C—over three degrees below the usual for November.
Pahalgam hit an even frostier -3.8°C, and places like Gulmarg and Kupwara also saw sub-zero temps.
The MeT Department says the cold will stick around a bit longer, with mainly dry weather until November 15, then some light rain and snow expected in higher areas.

Early freeze could mean early winter

This early freeze means a higher risk of frost damaging crops and could make winter arrive sooner in tourist hotspots like Pahalgam and Gulmarg.
Locals are being told to stay alert as icy roads and frozen water supplies could become an issue, especially with the tough Chillai Kalan winter period starting December 21.
