Strait of Hormuz holds 16 fertilizer ships bound for India
16 ships carrying fertilizers for India are currently stuck in the Strait of Hormuz, an important shipping route.
These vessels have essential crop nutrients like urea, DAP, ammonia, and sulfur on board.
Even with this hiccup, officials say there's no immediate risk to fertilizer supplies for farmers this sowing season.
India has imported 5 million tons
The stranded ships include eight with urea and four with DAP, plus a few carrying ammonia and sulfur.
To keep things running smoothly for summer crops, India has already brought in 5 million tons of fertilizers and boosted local production.
There's also a global tender out to buy more urea.
With expected fertilizer use at 38.39 million tons this season, officials are confident their backup plans will cover any gaps, so farmers shouldn't worry about shortages right now.
