Study finds India could save ₹2.27L/cr by easing build limits
India
India could save a massive ₹2.27 lakh crore on power costs just by loosening up its current restrictions on building new renewable energy projects, according to a study shared at the Global Wind Day conference.
These "build limits" are mostly about land and infrastructure issues, but they're slowing down clean energy growth.
Government considers easing, ₹1.24L/cr needed
If these limits are eased, not only could renewable capacity grow faster, but the country would require an additional capital expenditure of ₹1.24 lakh crore.
The government is looking into the proposal, and wind industry leaders expect to install 8 GW of fresh capacity in 2026-27, scaling up annual installations to 10 GW in the following year.
