Tamil Nadu braces for heavy rain from new low-pressure area

Heads up, Tamil Nadu: a new low-pressure system near Sri Lanka is bringing heavy rain starting Sunday.
IMD has issued orange alerts for Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Karaikal, with 12-20cm of rain expected on November 16.

Why bother?

The rain will spread to places like Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Thanjavur by November 17, with showers likely until the 21st.
After weeks of barely any rainfall this month, this sudden downpour could potentially disrupt daily life—such as causing traffic jams and soggy commutes—and may also affect farmers during harvest time.

What else?

Another low-pressure area might form around November 18-21, so more wet weather could be on the way.
IMD is also warning about lightning and strong winds.
