Meteorologists say a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal by October 21, which could turn into a depression.
Heavy rain is forecast for places like Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, and Tiruppur in the next 24 hours. Chennai might get some lighter rain with thunderstorms too.

Fishermen warned to return by October 21 morning

The North East Monsoon kicked off on October 16 and has already drenched spots like Kothagiri (with 14cm in just one day).
With wind speeds possibly reaching 55km/h along the southern coast and Gulf of Mannar, fishermen have been told to avoid deep-sea trips and head back to shore by the morning of October 21 for safety.
