Tamil Nadu raises agriculture budget to ₹58,374cr for 2026-27

Tamil Nadu just raised its agriculture budget to ₹58,374 crore for 2026-27, a major jump from the 2025-26 Agriculture Budget (₹45,661 crore).
The plan covers both new projects and ongoing expenses, signaling the state's push for more resilient farming.
Tamil Nadu rural development gets ₹18,103cr
The Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department gets the biggest share at ₹18,103 crore as part of a drive to boost foodgrain production, aiming for 12,500,000 tons during 2026-27.
There's also extra support for organic farming (₹4,000 per acre incentive), new organic and natural farming clusters, plus big funds for micro-irrigation and soil health projects.
The goal: healthier farms, smarter water use, and better food security across Tamil Nadu.
