What's the story

The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has booked Mahabubnagar district's deputy transport commissioner, Mood Kishan, for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. According to NDTV, the ACB found assets worth ₹12.72 crore on paper, but estimates the actual market value could exceed ₹100 crore. This includes 31 acres of agricultural land in Sangareddy district alone, which is valued at around ₹62 crore.

Asset discovery

ACB uncovers luxury assets, commercial investments

The ACB's investigation has unearthed a range of luxury and commercial assets linked to Kishan. These include a 50% stake in the Lahari International Hotel and 3,000 square yards of premium furniture showroom space in Nizamabad. The raids also revealed extensive land holdings, including another 10 acres of commercial land within Nizamabad municipal limits.

Additional findings

Kishan's assets include luxury vehicles, frozen bank deposits

In addition to the land and commercial assets, the ACB also froze bank deposits of ₹1.37 crore linked to Kishan. Vehicles, including a Toyota Innova Crysta and a Honda City, were also seized during the raids. Residential properties allegedly owned by Kishan include two flats in Ashoka Township, Nizamabad, and a specialized polyhouse facility in Sangareddy.

Legal action

Kishan booked under Prevention of Corruption Act

Kishan has been booked under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the amended Prevention of Corruption Act, Times Now reported. These sections pertain to possession of disproportionate assets and criminal misconduct by a public servant. The ACB is continuing its probe to trace the sources of these assets and dismantle the alleged network behind their accumulation.

Public notice

ACB urges public to report bribery demands

The ACB has also reiterated that the identity of complainants is kept strictly confidential. Citizens are urged to report any demands for bribes by public servants through the toll-free helpline 1064 or by texting the WhatsApp number 9440446106. The findings have raised eyebrows as an officer of Kishan's rank draws a gross monthly salary of around ₹1-1.25 lakh.
