A new gadget called Safeback SBX might seriously boost survival chances for people trapped under snow in an avalanche.
Researchers tested it on volunteers and found that it helps direct air from the snow to your airways—no extra oxygen tanks needed.

Device extends survival time

In the study, people using Safeback SBX stayed buried for a median of 35 minutes without dangerous drops in oxygen, compared to just 6.4 minutes with a fake device.
Since most avalanche deaths happen within that first half hour, this tech could be a game-changer—especially for places like Jammu and Kashmir or Himachal Pradesh where avalanches are common.
