#CareerBytes: Best engineering colleges, other than IITs, NITs

Given the vast prospects that it offers, Engineering remains one of the most preferred courses in India after Class-12. Indian Institutes of Technology and National Institutes of Technology are premier public institutes offering the best engineering and technology education. However, there are many other engineering colleges that offer high standards of education. Here's a list of such engineering colleges other than IITs and NITs.

BITS, Pilani
BITS Pilani, one of India's largest privately-funded deemed universities

Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) in Rajasthan's Pilani, established in 1964, is a renowned deemed university. Admission is based on all-India BITS Admission Test (BITSAT) performance. The prestigious institute offers eight undergraduate engineering courses, including Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics and Instrumentation, Computer Science, Manufacturing, and Integrated BE+MSc Tech (General Studies).

VIT, Vellore
The Vellore Institute of Technology in Tamil Nadu

Vellore Institute of Technology is a deemed university in Tamil Nadu's Vellore founded in 1984. It admits students through VIT Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE). It offers 18 courses, including BTech in Civil, Mechanical (Regular and specialization in Automotive/Energy), Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Instrumentation, Chemical, IT, CSE (Regular and specialization in Bioinformatics/Information Security), Electronics & Communication (Regular and specialization in Sensors-Wearable/IoT-Sensor/Biomedical engineering) among others.

BVP, Pune
BVP University in Pune ranked among India's top private universities

Bharati Vidyapeeth (BVP) University in Pune was established in 1964. Selection of students for engineering courses is made by the BVP Common Entrance Test. BVP has several campuses across India apart from the Pune institute. The Pune campus offers 15 courses, including BTech in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Production Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics & Telecommunication, and Biomedical Engineering.

Thapar, Patiala
Thapar University, one of the top universities for engineering

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Thapar University), founded in 1956, is a deemed university in Patiala. It admits students to engineering courses based on the JEE Main score. It offers BE in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electronics and Computer Engineering, Electronics (Instrumentation & Control) Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Production), Mechatronics, and BTech in Biotechnology.

Anna University
Anna University, one of the best technical universities

Anna University is a state technical university founded in 1978 in Chennai's Guindy. The College of Engineering (Guindy) offers BE in Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Printing Technology, Agricultural and Irrigation, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Geo-Informatics, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication, Biomedical Engineering, and BTech in Information Technology.

Jadavpur University
Jadavpur University, a public university funded by West Bengal government

Kolkata's Jadavpur University is a premier public university founded in 1955 and funded by West Bengal's government. Students are selected through WB Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE). It offers 15 engineering programs like BE in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Construction, Chemical, CSE, IT, Electronics & Telecommunication, Instrumentation & Electronics, Metallurgical Engineering, Power, Printing, Production, and BTech in Instrumentation & Electronics and Food Technology & Biochemical Engineering.

The IIITs
There are 23 Indian Institutes of Information Technology

There are 23 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) in the country focused on information technology. Gwalior, Allahabad, Jabalpur, Kanchipuram, Kurnool IIITs are established/managed/funded by HRD Ministry. The Vadodara, Guwahati, Sri City, Kota, Tiruchirapalli, Kalyani, Una, Sonepat, Lucknow, Kottayam, Senapati, Dharwad, Pune, Nagpur, Ranchi, Surat, Bhopal, Bhagalpur IIITs were established under public-private partnership model. Admissions are made through Joint Seat Allocation Authority and JEE-Main.

PESIT, Bengaluru
PESIT Bengaluru among the best engineering colleges

People's Education Society University, formerly called PES Institute of Technology (PESIT), in Bengaluru is a private university established in 1972. It admits 60% of candidates to undergraduate courses, including engineering, through PES Scholastic Aptitude Test (PESSAT) and the rest through Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET). Courses offered include BE in Computer Science & Engineering, Information Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication, and Mechanical Engineering.
